Red water, white salt, blue sky and brown mountains create an unusual vista punctuated by a flamboyance of flamingos.

The lake is red due to sediments and pigmentation of the algae that lives in it. Which in turn makes the flamingos pink. This is beautifully contrasted with the white borax islands and the brown mountains. The lake is within the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, and requires payment to enter, but is most definitely worth the price.
