La Paz in a big city at big altitude. At 12,000 feet above sea level, it is the highest capital city in the world.

La Paz is set in a canyon surrounded by the mountains of the Altiplano. Descending into the canyon you will discover unique market places, other worldly landscapes and a rich culture of the original Andean inhabitants. You will find mummified llama fetuses in the witches’ markets, and coca leaves aplenty.

Since the landscape of La Paz is so rocky and mountainous, the city has elected to construct their mass transportation system above ground. Brilliantly using gondolas that you would typically find in a ski resort, they efficiently carry you across the city while simultaneously giving you perfect vistas over the area.
