Shuntavia Butte
The Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park is located 40 miles north of Zion. It's an easily accessible experience just about 5-minutes off the freeway. A five-mile scenic drive along the Kolob Canyons Road to will get you access to some easy trails and an incredible viewpoint.
My friends and I drove to Zion from Las Vegas. It's an easy drive and takes about 2.5 hours. Our timing was perfect to arrive in Zion just in time for sunset. Except getting into Zion valley takes some time and isn't the best place to see the sunset. This is where Kolob Canyons comes in. The cliffs face West and pickup the sun perfectly as it sets, and it's really easy to drive to. The entrance is only about 5-minutes off the freeway, and then a 5-mile drive up the canyon to the view point. Once you pass the gate and enter the canyon, you'll get your first impression of how awesome Zion is. The view point at the top has a few trails you can explore. One takes you from the parking lot to a cliff's edge which has the best view. It's only about a mile hike and is very easy.
