Markleeville is a small and quaint town near the banks of the Carson River. Reminiscent of something out of the old West, it gives you a place for a pause while travelling to Lake Tahoe.

During my stay in South Lake Tahoe, I took my rental car out for a long drive into California. On the way I stumbled upon the town of Markleeville, and the roaring Carson River. The town itself is small but boasts a vibe of its own and is surrounding by some incredible views of the Carson River valley. Just outside the town are ample places to stop for pictures and exploration. There are several tributary creeks that feed into the river that you can explore from the town as well. These would be great places for a picnic, a short hike or just a break from a long drive.
